I have selected my "LDT Technology Badge – Website Development Badge" as the artifact to demonstrate how I aim to comply with participation in professional development activities in the practice of instructional design. I have selected this artifact because this technology badge demonstrates evidence of completing professional training in website development including designing a website, creating a website, and demonstrating the value of developing a website.
This competence is important because one of its applications is the ability of an Instructional Designer to develop a portfolio website and showcase portfolio projects which becomes critical to success in his/her profession. The ID is then able to market knowledge and skills, demonstrate competence in various aspects of Instructional Design including analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of solutions, display communication and writing skills, and professional capabilities. Earning the LDT Technology Website Development Badge has helped me demonstrate capabilities such as developing a storyboard for the website, determining the appropriate website development tool, learning about the tool and delving into putting together pages and buttons to navigate, adding content, evaluating, and publishing the site.
My previous knowledge in planning a task thoroughly, learning to use new tools quickly, keeping content organized, software evaluation, and attention to detail, helped me navigate building the website effectively and efficiently.
My portfolio website worked as a very appropriate artifact for the Website Development Challenge because it covered all important aspects such as planning, designing, constructing, and evaluating the website. Some important things I learnt while earning this challenge include more information about the various rapidly developing tools such as Wix, Weebly, WordPress, Squarespace, and Google Sites, logically organizing content, and making sure the website provides a cohesive user experience. In the future, as a teacher, I will utilize the knowledge earned in this challenge to create and share a classroom website with students, parents, and the larger school community.
