OER Commons resource for Digital Multimeter Activity / Lab
In order to design the Digital Multimeter Training Activity / Lab, I used the Backward Design Process by first starting with defining learning objectives, then structuring assessments based on ILO's, PLO's, CLO's and weekly learning objectives. I followed this up by creating the learning instruction, activities, and materials by adapting content from OER Commons. A brief overview of this technique is indicated in the screenshots below.

Based on the assessments, I decided the activity and materials to be used. For the activity, I searched the Open Education Resource (OER) Commons website and located a Digital Multimeter training activity with a Creative Commons Attribution CC BY 4.0. This is Public Domain Licensed content which can be shared or adapted after providing appropriate attribution.
This was a comprehensive resource to create the activity. Based on the lesson structure provided in the resource, I created corresponding pages on Canvas. On each page, I chunked the content into easy to read portions.
In the original resource, the introduction to each type of measurement and the corresponding activities were not placed together. To improve this, I created a separate Canvas page for each type of measurement, and placed relevant content together.
The OER resource provided good quality images corresponding to various topics in the activity. I included these images in Canvas on the appropriate pages.
For the Assignment page, I adapted the activity suggested in the OER resource. I incorporated UDL Standards and modified the activity to include multiple modalities for learners to respond. This kept the assessment construct-relevant.
I modified the rubric provided to make it more structured and construct relevant, removing evaluation of construct-irrelevant modalities.
Overall, using an OER resource to build out the activity / lab made it much easier to gather relevant content. It was similar to working with a Subject Matter Expert to take the subject specific content and adapt it to online technological tools.
